Compare Standard Unit Blocks & Wooden Blocks for Todders and Preschoolers
We use only durable, infant-safe Hard Rock Maple for our unit blocks for todders and preschoolers — never imported, chemically treated rubberwood or other soft hardwood. We cut each unit block to within one-half of one hundredth of an inch of standard unit block dimensions and round all edges for safety. We exceed CPSIA requirements.
We make it easy to upgrade. You can start with a smaller set for todders and preschoolers to meet immediate needs and upgrade whenever you wish. For an infant, toddler, or preschooler, start with the CP01 Infant Toddler Standard Unit Wooden Block Starter Set, the CP11 Introductory Family Standard Unit Wooden Block Set, or the CP31 Preschool Center Standard Unit Wooden Block Set and upgrade in easy, affordable steps to meet your budget.
A good set of Hard Rock Maple Unit Blocks will last generations. Standard unit blocks in traditional hard rock maple is the classic toy— a perfect baby gift for aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
Pay attention to the number of children you expect to play with these blocks simultaneously. Each booster set (CP02, CP03, CP04, CP05) adds blocks for an additional child and also supports age-appropriate play and additional dramatic and creative play possibilities for your family. Our CP11 Introductory Family and CP31 Preschool Center wooden block sets include enough unit blocks for multiple toddlers.

Our Hard Rock Maple Unit Block Stock is never treated or sprayed with anti-fungals or insecticides because doesn't need to be — Hard Rock Maple hardwood is naturally insect- and mold-resistant. When your maple unit blocks get soiled, just wipe them off with a damp cloth and let them air-dry. Hard Rock Maple Unit Blocks typically last for decades when periodically cleaned and kept indoors. (We have some blocks that are almost a century old.)
We’ve taken an American education standard — the Unit Block — and provide a better block for todders and preschoolers — locally-made, sustainably produced, precisely and lovingly made, and ultimately safer for our children.
We use sustainably harvested, kiln-dried FSC Certified Hard Rock Maple, the only material we believe to be suitable for the full range of builders, from infants who put everything in their mouths to older adolescent siblings who build as high as they can reach.
We precision manufacture each block to within one-half of one hundreth of an inch in every dimension. We roundover every edge for safety.
We use only the time-tested proportions of the Standard Unit Block developed by educator Caroline Pratt one hundred years ago: 5.5 inches long, 2.75 inches wide, and 1.375 inches thick. Every block we produce is based on multiples of these basic measurements.
We offer an industry-leading 10 Year Warranty.
