Unit Block Shapes
These are based upon the Standard Unit Block invented by Caroline Pratt and used widely as a playbased educational material. Dimensions are given in inches.

 Basic Units
 Wooden blocks measuring 5.5 x 2.75 x 1.375 inches. The base wooden block size. All other standard unit blocks are fractions or multiple of the basic unit. Another term for standard units.
 Standard Units
 Wooden blocks measuring 5.5 x 2.75 x 1.375 inches. This is the basic unit with its 4:2:1 ratio upon which all other shapes are based. Educator Caroline Pratt extended Froebel's Fourth Gift using a slightly larger wooden block made from hard maple.
 Half Units
 Wooden blocks measuring 2.75 x 2.75 x 1.375 inches. These square blocks are half the length of the basic standard unit block but the same width and depth. In cheaper sets, half units may be substituted for standard unit, or even called standard units, to increase the advertised block count and reduce shipping weight.  Double Units
 Wooden blocks measuring 11 x 2.75 x 1.375 inches. These blocks are twice as long as the standard unit block. In cheaper sets, there may be only two or less of these to increase the block count and reduce shipping weight.
 Quad Units
 Wooden blocks measuring 22 x 2.75 x 1.375 inches. The same as Quadruple Units.
 Quadruple Units
 Wooden blocks measuring 22 x 2.75 x 1.375 inches. These blcoks are four times as long as standard units. Almost nonexistent in economy unit block sets. Compare with Melissa & Doug 60 Standard Unit Blocks.
 Ramps
 Wooden blocks measuring 5.5 x 2.75 x 1.375 inches. The same dimensions as the standard unit except one 2.75 edge is cut off to make the 5.5 x 1.375 inch sides triangular.
 Triangles
 Wooden blocks measuring 5.5 x 2.75 x 1.375 inches. The same dimensions as the standard unit except one 1.375 edge is cut off to make the 5.5 x 2.75 inch sides triangular.
 Small Triangles
 Wooden blocks measuring 2.75 x 2.75 x 1.375 inches. The same dimensions as the half unit except one 1.375 edge is cut off to make the 2.75 x 2.75 inch sides triangular.
 Pillars
 Wooden blocks measuring 5.5 x 1.375 x 1.375 inches. Square columns that are half the width of the standard unit but the same length.
 Double Pillars
 Wooden blocks measuring 11 x 1.375 x 1.375 inches. Square columns that are half the width of the standard unit and double the length.
 Arches
 Wooden blocks measuring 5.5 x 2.75 x 1.375 inches. The same dimensions as the standard unit except for a 2.75 inch diameter semicircle cut out of the middle of the one 5.5 inch edge.
 Half Roman Arches
 Wooden blocks measuring 5.5 x 2.75 x 1.375 inches. The same dimensions as the standard unit except for a 1.375 inch radius quarter circle and half pillar removed from the one 5.5 inch edge creating an "L" shaped block. Two of these may be use together to create a Roman Arch.
 Small Cylinders
 Wooden blocks measuring 5.5 x 1.375 diameter inches. Round columns that are half the width of the standard unit but the same length.
 Large Cylinders
 Wooden blocks measuring 5.5 x 2.75 diameter inches.Round columns that are double the depth of the standard unit and the same length and width.
 Quarter Circles
 Wooden blocks measuring 2.75 x 2.75 x 1.375 inches. These blocks are the same dimensions as half units except one corner is removed to create a quarter circle shape on the 2.75 by 2.75 inch side.
 Elliptical Curves
 Wooden blocks measuring 11 x 8.25 x 1.375 inches. These blocks add a half unit to one end of a 8.25 inch radius quarter cicle arch. A standard unit can fit under the half unit and a 2.75 inch radius quarter circle and 5.5 inch radius quarter circle arch can fit under the curved portion of an elliptical curve.
 Quarter Circle Arches
 Wooden blocks measuring 5.5 x 5.5 x 1.375 inches. A 2.75 inch radius quarter circle can fit under this 5.5 inch radius quarter circle arch.

 Quadruple Unit Planks
 Wooden blocks measuring 22 x 2.75 x 0.6875 inches. These blocks are ideally half thickness quadruple units used for roads, roofs, floors, tables and bridges.
 Double Unit Planks
